Today, I turned 65. For the past four months, I've been working on getting into better shape. I've achieved some goals, but I'm not done yet.
When I started this journey, I was at 220 lbs, and far softer than I like to be. Today, I'm at 195 lbs, and working on building muscles. That part is much harder than the losing weight was. That is okay, I’m not afraid of the challenge.
I don't like gyms, I never have. Far too much testosterone in those places for my taste. I like working at home. I'm the same way with my biking. I far prefer riding alone over riding with a group. Oh, I'm okay with occasionally riding with someone else. I like riding or working out alone so that I can set my own pace. I don't have to feel like I need to keep up with someone else, or that I'm going too fast for another person.
For the month of August, I decided to join the 200 Mile Ride To End ALZ for the Alzheimer’s Association. We all have known someone dealing with this terrible disease. I wanted to do my part. To participate, you agree to ride 200 miles in the month of August, and get people to pledge. The default goal amount was $200. That felt fine to me at first. I hit that amount the first day. So, I upped the amount to $500. Thanks to some very awesome friends, I have beaten that goal!
Figures, that for the first two weeks of August, I got hit with a large, well paying, project. That took up most of my time, so I didn’t make as much progress on the riding as I wanted. Not a problem. I did as much as I could when I had time. I passed the 200 miles just in time for my birthday.
You can still pledge if you want to. Unfortunately, you do need to be on Facebook. The link is here:

So, what about my self improvement? It is going great. I’m happy with the weight loss. I’m not trying to lose any more. Now, I'm working on getting better toned, and building muscle. I will admit that at 65 it is more challenging that it was at 25. I’m not letting that stop me!
Amazing achievement! And happy, happy birthday! :)
